Description

SUMMARY, EXPLANATION AND LIMITATIONS:
Thus glycophorin A (GPA) as glycophorin B (GPA) are sialoglycoproteins which pass just once through the membrane. GPA is the transporter of the M and N sanguine group specificity; and GPB for the S and U sanguine group. GPA is the most abundant intrinsic membrane protein in erythrocytes. The glycosylated N-terminus, which is outside the cell membrane is the receptor of the M and N sanguine group and also it binds to the influenza virus.

Clone: JC159
Isotype: IgG1/kappa
Immunogen: Formalin fixed membrane from alla Hairy cell leukemia..
Staining pattern: Cell membrane.
Positive control: Tissue sample from tonsil or placenta.

APPLICATIONS:
This antibody is designed for the specific localization of human glycophorin A using IHC techniques in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
This antibody is designed against a molecule which is expressed in erythroid cells, from the first morphologically recognizable erythroblasts to mature erythrocytes. Once the glycophorin A is at maximum expression, the total glycophorin in each erythrocyte keeps constant and does not show any change during the maturation process despite the decreasing cell size. The neoplastic erythroblasts are identified by glycophorin A in most of the erythroleukemia cases.
