SUMMARY, EXPLANATION AND LIMITATIONS:
Prealbumin is a protein found in serum in amounts ranging from 200-400 mg/L. Prealbumin migrates faster than albumin in acidic gels. The function is to transport thyroxine prealbumin, a feature it shares with thyroxine-binding globulin, retinol binding protein and vitamin A.
